Which credential is right for you at this stage of your career? See below for guidance. 

CAPM®

The Project Management Institute’s (PMI)® Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is aimed at people nearer the beginning of their project management career. The prerequisites for the certification are as follows:

  • Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent)
  • 23 hours of project management education completed by the time you sit for the exam. 

PMP®

The Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP)® is aimed at people further along in their project management career. The prerequisites for the certification are as follows:

  • A four-year degree
  • 36 months leading projects
  • 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification

  • A high school diploma or an associate’s degree (or global equivalent)
  • 60 months leading projects
  • 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification
